Hello, my name is Philip Clarke, and I am a strategic communications consultant.
People often ask me what that means. My answer is simple: I take complex ideas and turn them into meaningful narratives—stories that resonate with audiences, clarify purpose, and inspire action. At its core, strategic communication is about helping organizations articulate who they are, what they stand for, and why their work matters.
For nearly three decades, I have written in the strategic and persuasive voice. My work has included messaging for enrollment initiatives, fundraising campaigns, marketing and advertising strategies, and broader institutional positioning. Throughout my career, I have seen how powerful a well-crafted narrative can be when it aligns with an organization’s goals and values.
Launching Clarke Consulting Group, LLC represents a new chapter in my professional journey. Entrepreneurship is both exciting and humbling, but it is a step I felt called to take. Writing and storytelling have always been central to how I engage with the world, and I wanted to build a firm dedicated to helping organizations discover and communicate their most meaningful narratives.
My academic background reflects that lifelong interest in communication and ideas. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and an MBA from Point Park University, and later completed a Master of Arts in the Rhetoric and Philosophy of Communication from Duquesne University. I have also pursued executive education in emerging communications technologies, earning certifications in AI for Business from the University of Pennsylvania and Prompt Engineering from Vanderbilt University. These experiences have strengthened my interest in how organizations can combine strategic thinking, storytelling, and technology to communicate more effectively.
One of the thinkers who most influenced my perspective is Marshall McLuhan, whose famous phrase, “the medium is the message,” reshaped how many of us understand communication. McLuhan’s work encourages us to look beyond the words themselves and examine the channels, platforms, and environments in which messages are delivered. It is an idea that remains especially relevant in today’s digital and AI-driven communication landscape.
Through Clarke Consulting Group, I work with organizations to strengthen their strategic communications, clarify their messaging, and build narrative platforms that align strategy, story, and audience experience. Increasingly, this work also includes helping organizations integrate artificial intelligence into their communications and marketing strategies—using emerging tools to enhance efficiency, strengthen insight, and scale meaningful messaging while maintaining clarity and authenticity. Much of this work is grounded in a simple principle that guides the firm: clear strategy defines direction, story communicates purpose, and experience ensures audiences encounter a consistent and credible message across every platform.
Storytelling has always come naturally to me. Reflecting on my younger years, I realize that I have always had something to say—something to explore, question, or discuss. I have never been shy about striking up conversations with people in almost any setting. In many ways, that instinct to engage with others is the same instinct that drives effective communication.
This is how I approach the written word. Writing is, in many respects, a conversation on paper—an expanded version of a thirty-second elevator pitch, shaped with intention, clarity, and purpose.
Clarke Consulting Group was founded on a simple belief: organizations succeed when their ideas are communicated clearly, honestly, and with purpose. In a world where audiences are constantly inundated with information, the ability to communicate meaningfully is not just a marketing function—it is a leadership advantage.
Clarke Consulting Group serves as the umbrella organization for several complementary initiatives. Clarke Advisory focuses on strategic communications and narrative development for organizations and leaders. Clarke Travel designs curated travel experiences centered on culture, history, and the meaning of place. Phil’s Place is a podcast and media platform exploring leadership, sports, travel, and the stories that shape communities. Together, these initiatives reflect a shared belief in the power of narrative, experience, and meaningful connection.
My goal is to help organizations find their voice, tell their story, and communicate their value with clarity and confidence.
